Car news: The 21st Century Beetle

The new New Beetle will be out in Singapore (SG) in 2012.

This one is supposedly more masculine than the out-going 12 year old model. As of now, it is unsure what engine options the SG market is getting. I'm expecting the 1.4TSI will get the nod.

When I first read about it prior to the Shanghai Car Show in Apr, I was kind of disappointed to learn that there were no plans to have this car in yellow. Recently, I'm happy to learn that Saturn Yellow is one of the colour options. Let's hope the colour is offered in SG.

I've always liked the Beetle in yellow because of Bumblebee the Transformers cartoon robot.

So, this is the Saturn Yellow I was talking about. Probably similar to Sunflower Yellow in the previous generation. Still very nice.

The new car comes with modern TSI engines and options for a premium Fender sound system on board. This is a huge improvement over the previous car which had a laughable audio system. It is surprising that the previous generation lasted merely 12 years. I think the original one (rear engined) must have lasted more than 30 years.

Take a look at this first Beetle.

This is the New Beetle launched in 1998.

It looks like the 21st Century Beetle one will be priced to rival Mini.

Now, many people in SG would think of this car as a girl's car. Most men whom I know or speak to would that driving this is more feminine than wearing a dress. For me, I think that you don't need a car to make you a man. If you're masculine, you are.

I don't need to a muscle car to make me look macho. I am muscular.

In fact, I recall the period of time when I was driving my ancient Nissan to be my craziest (and lethal). On that machine, it was 2-3 trips to Lavender Hotel81 with 2-3 different women every week.

Guys, take this advice.

It's the man, not the car.
